When you think of Thai food, what comes to mind? The vibrant colors, the bold flavors, the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy? For me, it’s a deep connection to my roots in Bangkok and the joy of sharing those authentic tastes with the Halifax community. At Kajohn Thai Restaurant, we are proud to be the only Thai Select–certified restaurant by Thai Government in Nova Scotia, a recognition that honors our commitment to genuine Thai cooking.
The Heart of Award-Winning Thai Cuisine
Authenticity is the soul of our cooking. It’s not just only ingredients or recipes; it’s about preserving a culinary heritage that has been passed down through generations. Growing up in Bangkok, We learned from my family how to blend fresh herbs, spices, and sauces to create dishes that tell a story. When we moved to Halifax, we brought those traditions with me, determined to share the real taste of Thailand with my new community.
Our award-winning Thai cuisine is built on a few key principles:
Authentic Thai Ingredients : Our true Thai flavour starts here. When it comes to Thai cuisine, the foundation of its rich and vibrant flavors lies in the use of high quality authentic ingredients that have been sourced directly from the heart of Thailand.
Freshness: We use fresh, locally sourced produce whenever possible, combined with imported Thai herbs and spices.
Balance: Every dish is carefully crafted to balance the five fundamental flavors - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy.
Technique: Traditional cooking methods, like stir-frying over high heat and slow simmering, are essential to developing authentic flavors.
Passion: Cooking is an act of love, and that passion shines through in every plate we serve.
This approach has earned us recognition and, more importantly, the trust and loyalty of our guests who crave genuine Thai food.

The Journey of Chef Golf: From Bangkok to Halifax
My journey as a chef began in the bustling streets of Bangkok, where food is more than sustenance - it’s a way of life. I grew up watching my mother and grandmother prepare meals with care and precision. Their cooking was a daily celebration of family and culture. Inspired by their dedication, Me and my wife trained in some of Bangkok’s finest kitchens, mastering the art of Thai cuisine.
When I arrived in Halifax, I noticed a gap - while there were many restaurants offering Asian food, few served truly authentic Thai dishes. I wanted to change that. Opening Kajohn Thai Restaurant was my way of bringing a piece of home to Nova Scotia. It wasn’t easy at first. Sourcing the right ingredients and educating people about the nuances of Thai food took time. But with patience and persistence, we built a community of food lovers who appreciate the depth and complexity of our dishes.
Today, I’m proud to say that Kajohn Thai Restaurant is recognized for its award-winning Thai cuisine, a testament to the hard work and love poured into every meal.
What are the 7 Most Popular Thai Meals?
